Ah yes but our corporations are very good at mining in what they initially thought were uninhabitable environments. Using our deserts for Mars training sims makes sense if you look at Australian desert mining (aka destruction). Australia’s richest person owns most of them.

They’d not even survive the launch G forces. But not relevant. In history of human exploration & colonialism the king/queen & court never went first. Think about who he’s likely to send to occupy Mars & set it up. It will be an (imported) slave colony sold to the young & fit as heroism. Thoughts?

I don’t understand why it’s rarely mentioned. Maybe Gloria’s fate in Chapter 1 halts some readers. There’s a very good audiobook of it on YouTube (better version than Audible). It’s a good way to dip back into the book.

I initially read it because it was one of the books that ‘featured’ in the Bowie exhibition. I hadn’t heard of it before that. It’s quite a reality check.
