Somehow related: I just re-watched INSIDE MAN, and the setting was so clearly NYC between 9/11 and the dawn of the iPhone that I got a little teary.

Crucial reference point for me: The most useful social/fun/loving social network I was ever on was a dialup (and then telnet) BBS (Echo) that I joined in 1994, just at the dawn of Mosaic, the graphical web browser (which dawn would ultimately spell that BBS's demise as a functional space).
