Definitely more generic maps get way more table time. That said, they don’t have to be 100% featureless… but random altars or other very unique features have GM’s saying to the players “That’s not actually there” a lot.
The old King’s Road and Pathfinder Woodlands saw a LOT of use at my table.

The group that eventually formed migrated to the AD&D hardbacks.
His name was Martin Griffin. I haven’t heard from him in something like 30 years and was never able to find him on social media… but if you’re out there, thanks Martin.

He got out a mix of small books… I don’t recall if he had the AD&D PHB yet, but he had some of the little brown books.
I clearly recall Eldritch Wizardry for obvious reasons, but he also had Greyhawk and possibly the Holmes blue book. We didn’t know about the differences in the early rule sets.
