On July 10, 1966, “Freedom Sunday,” Dr. King addressed a crowd of 30,000 at Soldier Field. His speech spoke about Chicago’s housing crisis. Dr. King also demanded school desegregation, better wages, special institutions for children with disabilities, and teaching black history all year.

During his time in North Lawndale, Dr. Martin Luther King and others took over an unheated apartment at 1321 S. Homan, and pressed the landlord to make repairs.
