Its a hell of a lot harder when youre stripped of political power, and the state has a vested interest in keeping you disenfranchised because they know you'd vote against them/the people who appointed them.
Criminal justice should be a restorative system and this gives the State too much power
December 3, 2025 at 8:18 PM
how does somebody who is disenfranchised because they have been convicted of one of these felonies change the laws
the fact that you think they're bad doesn't mean they're not laws and therefore in this idea a disqualification for holding office
you said you wanted a hard line this is what it means
December 3, 2025 at 8:15 PM
yes the people who would be barred from voting and holding off it should work to change the law and run for political seats that they would be barred from holding, that makes sense

You stand by that a man who has consensual sex with another man in NC and MI should be barred from holding office?
In MI its felony adultery to live with your ex spouse after a divorce. Legal statute is arbitrary and disenfranchising felons creates an incentive to change opponents with felonies
December 3, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Exactly, hell its currently unenforceable but in some jurisdictions having gay sex is still a felony. Even before getting into the possibility (and historical reality) of manufactured charges, it's just a bad stance with our horrible carceral justice system

Apparently its what the procedure/ear aesthetic got called in China where it originated www.vice.com/en/article/e...
Cause I also would never have thought to describe it that way unless this article had popped up in a search
‘Elf Ears’ Are Trending in China. People Are Undergoing Surgery To Get Them.
Protruding ears may have been the target of playground bullies, but they’re now fueling a budding beauty trend in China.

amusingly was just discussing this with friends, you haven't seen anything new bc I don't think theres been any advancement, its all still essentially a docking of your ears with some rough side effects and less than stellar results as far as "looking like an elf"

And yeah I know people mean "politics" as a shorthand for "news about politicians, especially US national politicians" but when I mean that I say "political news"

To me "politics" is anything regarding the governance of an area. Like regulations to prevent harmful light pollution.

happy birthday dear birthday twin.

One of my best friends got a new position going from retail to HR that is overall a better job and I'm happy for her, but selfishly she's moving a whole opposite coast of the country closer to me again and will have more time for playing games and such!
