Will mainly be using this to post my random thoughts on the games I'm playing and the media I've been watching.
Also it's endlessly amusing to me the amount of executives that'll openly say the AI isn't actually helping improving productivity, but they'll keep paying for it because someday it might.

As a long time survival horror fan this is a game I'm really looking forward to.

It feels like people conflate classic SH with classic Resident Evil which takes resource management and picking your battles a lot more seriously. Or they just know the basic concepts of Survival Horror and think that every game in it follows them to an extreme.

Play with the mechanics a bit and she can go hit for hit with a lot of enemies in the game. Or kill them without getting hit. Most encounters in the game are less about resources or health, and more about if it's worth the time commitment to kill them when you can just go to the next door instead.

Then you have SH3, the most action oriented of the originals. This is where monsters start to get hard to deal with due to their size and strength. That said Heather gets armor, one of the best weapons with the katana, and a pretty strong block ability.

Silent Hill 2 is just straight up the easiest classic survival horror games. James can solve all monster problems with the plank and then pipe. Aside from Pyramid Head there's no need to run from enemies. Difficult combat, and resource management was simply not the point of the game.

Also a note on SH1, you can parry the dogs when they do the jump attack. Time a knife swing well to hit it in the air, and you'll knock it out of its attack.

Silent Hill 1 has flying enemies that are actually difficult to deal with. You'll be doing plenty of running when outside, sure. Inside though you can just kill everything that gets in the way of your puzzle solving. Also Harry gets the strongest melee weapon in the game. All praise the hammer.

It's an amazing experience inside of a game that comes up short in many ways, imo. To me it's a 7/10. I'm glad I played through it (mostly) two times for the story stuff, but the actual game part of the game just never really won me over.

Finally there's the combat. I don't hate the mechanics but there's just so god damn much of it at times. Until a recent update there were several mandatory gauntlets. It was a slog at times.

Cons Cont.

Needing to beat it at least three times for the whole story and best ending. The game is 90% the same each time so my second run through just ran out of steam closer to the end. Something like Automata in comparison had playing as different characters and different mechanics.

Cons Continued:

Breakable weapons. I found a way around this with a nice build, but as a whole Silent Hill has never been heavy on resource management so I don't understand trying to force it into the most action heavy entry of the series.

Cons:

Lack of variety in locations. Some locations are done extremely well, like Hinako's House, but there's just way too many backstreets and corridors that make things look very same-y. Also the Dark Shrine as the only "nightmare" world got kinda boring eventually.

Pros:
The sound design is amazing and the art direction is great (sometimes).

Some of the monsters are great (particularly the dolls and scarecrows).

The story and character writing is amazing, and fully lives up to what you'd expect from Higurashi creator Ryukishi07.

The bosses were pretty good.

Yuppie Psycho

Survival Horror where you're in a corporate dystopia acting as a substitute witch hunter. Your job is to stop the magic corruption in the office building as things continue to get worse. Has some interesting world building, an amazing style, and some damn cool monsters.

Evil Tonight

2D Survival horror in a style similar to the Mana series. Art style, and character personalities are similar to 90s anime. Basically you're an exorcist having to deal with ghosts in the spirit world version of an old mansion.
