I made a glowing mushroom lamp one time.

1) found a mushroom shaped vase

2) mixed pigment w wood glue to make it colourful. Painted a tonne of layers.

3) added foil around the base and painted it brown like dirt

4) put fairy lights inside.

Progress pics for my watercolour painting.

Using latex masking fluid helped me to be able to get a really even base colour without worrying about going over the lines and creating muddy colours.
