Oh that's a fun thematic reversal! ☺️ Most of what I know about Hidden Christians in Japan came from the Tales of the Otori books by Lian Hearn.
My Lancer's genetic template was a South-East Asian coded freedom fighter, so I flavor-texted the Wazikashi as a Talwar & gave it a big red-&-gold sash!

So yeah, IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW: Blacksad is good. 1950s gritty film noir where all the characters are anthropomorphized animals. The animal-ness of their design really informs their characters: The cat PI with nine lives, the tough but loyal dog commissioner, the affable gorilla boxer, etc
