Clear-cutting have major impact on forest C stock. It created negative soil carbon balance for decades, and it took 37-69 years for the forest soils to reach a break-even point where new carbon uptake compensated for the carbon lost.

Elisa found that respiration rates scale as the product of organic carbon and microbial biomass, with minimal effects of microbial diversity. This is a cool result, supporting the use of nonlinear kinetics to interpret data at small scales (lab incubation). Great @holisoils.bsky.social team effort!

(1) enhanced forest productivity through an increase in microbial residues & #SoilCarbon pool,
(2) changed trees’ secondary metabolism.
