Winding down from an adventurous life, a multi-media artist and craftsman, kayaker and amateur photographer settled down at long last along the southern Oregon coast.
Two bird species in tandem, not exactly an oddity in that one is breakfast for the other.
A bald eagle carries off a harlequin duck to find a breakfast nook among the somber overcast of a mid winter's morning

Pigeon Guillemots holding their annual spring confab on the Seal Rocks of Oregon's mid-coast. They utter a high soft mew sound when their scarlet mouths open, calling to each other.
A once in a lifetime encounter appearing out of the ocean mist where I also perched

A drowsy and somewhat bedraggled Barred Owl dries off after overnight rains. A resident of the neighborhood, it has a distinctive somewhat croaky voice letting me know hoo is hoo up there.

Alighting on a washed up pile of driftwood, a female marsh hawk (aka Northern Harrier) holds in its talons a balled up wad of grass it has just snatched from the riverbank meadow, hoping to feel the wiggle of a vole or mouse caught inside...

A good haul of plastic trash pulled off the beach of a secluded cove following a storm back in early January.
There's at least one more load in the next cove over, waiting for a day with no wind and mild surf. It might be a while, there's more weather coming in.

A snoozing harbor seal keeps a mildly disinterested eye on me as I drift past its rocky berth, aware that I'm keeping my distance and will soon paddle by.
