feel like just as often it's an excuse for people to avoid doing any self-interrogation though. they just don't wanna examine their favs critically. they'd rather tacitly accept bigotry than entertain any criticism of the thing they like lol

feel like sometimes it stems from this idea that like, "oh, they're just old, they're just a product of their time, they get a pass to be bigoted!" as if people can't change or evolve (or as if that makes it okay)
