Astronomer, driving The Dish📡 to study pulsars in my PhD. Also, founded SpaceAustralia.com. Also, love a bit of astrophotography. Also, do everything with my little mate, Max. Also, Ultra-Gay. He/Him.
and also, JBB was kind and happy enough to appease my fanboi nature, as I was pretty much giddling through the whole interview - and even signed a high-quality paper copy of my first ever paper from my PhD (see earlier post).

Special plans for this signed copy!

In this wavelength and colour scheme, the clouds of Jupiter resemble what the sky looks like in scenes from the film Constantine (2005), when Keanu Reeves' character goes into Hell.

Merry Xmas to all you BSky folks!

Regardless of how you celebrate it (or not) know that my dog was extremely unimpressed by me forcing him to dress up like this, just to bring the TL a little joy.

Hope y’all have a nice day in whatever you end up doing!

Fantastic thread!

Reber lived in Tasmania in the later part of his life, and passed away here. There’s even a museum dedicated to him down there!

He was of such importance and pivotal to #RadioAstronomy that his ashes were sent to radio telescopes all around the world! 📡

ha!

What a popular TV show can do .... the particular episode of Pluribus aired on Dec 12 ...

Really think this is an important point.

When I started learning about #RadioAstronomy (pre-chatgpt) I went down random rabbit holes of knowledge.

From one of those, I found out that very early radio astronomy happened right here in Sydney not far from home, so I took my dog to see the old sites!

A friend has recently just got into #astrophotography and spent 8 hours taking this image of the Rosetta Nebula from Sydney.

It’s soooo neat! Winds from those central hot stars are carving out a cavity in this huge cloud. New stars are forming there too!

Shared with permission.

It now has a little pot 🪴

Because I was mesmerised by the absolutely wild purple colour of this plant and I bought it today, this little guy will now be known as “The Solstice Tree”!

The December solstice is tonight - will happen at 2:03am Sydney time (we will be asleep).

The Sun has moved as far south as it will, and will now slowly climb back towards to the north/

The name has Latin origin:

Sol = Sun
Sistere = to stand still

We move into true summer!

It’s exactly one week since the horrific attacks at #BondiBeach started.

15 lives tragically and needlessly lost.

I hope their families and friends find peace one day.

May their memories be a blessing.

How can I resist this?!?!?

I just loooooove going gardening shopping. I don’t know why but it is so much better than clothes shopping.

five-year anniversary of the best sunrise I've ever seen over Sydney from my place.

I was observing with Murriyang through the night (remotely) and noticed the sky going a fiery orange.

Ran to the roof and this is what was on show ... snapped with phone.

Been chasing this sunrise since ......

Summer days in Sydney are so nice.

Warm, blue skies and the Sun still high in the sky — the solstice approaches!

Popped just outside of Sydney for a lovely brunch with @drspacejunk.bsky.social this morning!

And just like that … the evil (and fictional) Dr Pulsar is born into our world! (more on this in the future)

Always lovely catching up with you, Alice — so glad we got to see each other for Xmas! 🥰

Looks like there is some FANTASTIC weekend reading ahead!

12 new pre-prints have hit arXiv from global teams, related to #pulsars in the SKAO era!

Excellent!
