A home for all my geeky stuff: Wargames, board games, occasional computer games...anything geeky.
As FB becomes less habitable, I will probably port over less geeky, but still uninteresting things, like my latest parkrun experience.
Finally got round to making my terrain dice box. Sort dice into groups of 5 because it's easy to multiply by 5 for larger wargames.

Parkrun 248, Harlow: Lovely undulating tarmac run. 2 laps with two 180 turns, sapping up hills and flying downhills…Felt strong after the 1st lap, ok after the 2nd, but then one last mini 700m lap that destroys motivation. Tried upping my cadence on the hills, seemed to work. Will go back.

Clair Obscur: What mechanic is this? I play games so I don't have to form relationships!

Blood bowl: Whatever your injury, Dark elf apothecary has a unguent, tincture or potion for it...

Geek News: Finally got around to painting my Blood Bowl Thralls and Vargheist. Ironically not much life in them, but better than grey plastic.

Parkrun 247 Great Yarmouth: Hardest UK PR. Beautiful, quiet morning run. First 650m on soft/compact sand. Then hell on earth (soft sand) for 600m as 5km/min went to 6.5km/min. Then grass for 500m and 500m of compact. Repeat. Great run to do. Speed graph matches the softness and fatigue levels.

Parkrun 246. Holkham: Cool day at the beautiful Holkham park and (red brick) manor house. 1 lapper on tarmac but hilly for the fens! 67m ascent in total. First 800m uphill, 200m down, 1.5km slight uphill, 2.5 Downhill. You can see from my pace it's tricky. A very good 24.02. Many dogs too.

Parkrun 245: Return to Brook Leys. Our fast course, but still cold and a little icy. I am trying to increase my Steps/Min as it seems lots of sites recommend this. Other than that, a chilly 23.55. Not in my top 20 times but nice to get under 24. Back to touristing next week.

Guess it is time to try out 2025's game of the year then...

Lovely walk around Grafham Water, need to go back soon.

Parkrun 244: Milton again as it was on, sheltered and less icy. Cold and difficult, plus first back from slight injury. 24.29 but smooth pace and couldn't really do much more. A nice benchmark for the year.

Parkrun 243: Palkwalk as I woke up a few days ago with a very bad ankle. So a good time to build on, a 46.15 at Milton. 100% runs and 100% volunteer this year already.

Parkrun #242: Back at Milton after 20 tourists. Difficult run today probably due to the cold and driving over the last few days. A 24.04 to finish the year or 51 runs out of 54.

Parkrun: Xmas special.Torbay velopark. 3 laps of tarmac plus a little out and back. My watch failed to start so ran without proper pacing. Managed a 23.35 even though it was very windy!
December 25, 2025 at 10:52 AM
Parkrun #240: Chilton Fields. No weekday run as was unwell. A small, friendly 3 lap course around a playing field and track. A bit twisty and tight and about 80% trail with slippery mud and puddles. Hard run and 1 min slower than last week.

The good old days; GW models were £1 each and amorphous blobs of metal, but I still loved the battle reports done with icons rather than photographs.

Parkrun #239: Brook Leys (the new Story's field). Cold but sunny, felt rough and knees a bit achy. Bad sleep and up early.
It is a very fast course. All tarmac/gravel and 2 and a bit laps with 100m hilly part. Lots of folks to pace with and was 126th with my 2nd best time of the year of 23.25.

Surprise good weather so managed a run today. Knees grumbled a bit so cut it slightly short. Still have no idea how to 'run' in heart rate zone 2 as I go past that with a brisk walk.

Parkrun #238: New local Frank's Farm. 24.00. No weekday run. Uphill for 1.5km, only 25M ascent but long. The last 1.5km is downhill (see stats, a 4.12 last Km). Exposed wet and windy farmland, half concrete, half grass/mud/gravel. Not pleasant but will be nice in the summer. Great facilities though.

Parkrun 237, Stevenage: 23.56. Cold, wet and windy. A undulating tarmac course that was tricky to keep a steady speed on. Pace was ok. Final 150m where uphill on grass! Felt difficult today but was running faster than usual after a slow start. Good parking, facilities and pretty (in summer).
