I talk about fire/life safety, politics, Disney, and more. Left-leaning, proudly non-partisan, anti-NRA, anti-war, a non-driver, and a Masshole.
Big Oil and the military-industrial complex are totally in bed with each other for numerous reasons. (why don’t environmental groups care more about the environmental harm of war or the fact that the DoD is the world’s biggest polluter?)

Wouldn’t the IBC require the whole station to be sprinklered anyway, based on the requirements for a Group A-3 occupancy?

Maybe the insulation was installed (with zero regard to safety) in a rush as a knee-jerk response to noise complaints?

"Mad Max" seems like a product liability lawsuit waiting to happen.

All this shows how Big Oil and the military-industrial complex control the establishment - it's a great reason why politicians should have to dress like racing drivers.

The establishment puts money (especially from Big Oil and the military-industrial complex) above everything else - a great reason why politicians should have to dress like racing drivers.

Long before the election, I had a hunch that this would be the case despite his "anti-war" campaign promises (which went the way of Trump University). His personality is clearly one of an imperialist, but he conned countries/unions into believing otherwise.

Europe misread Trump as an isolationist. It's now clear he's an imperialist.
Gaza, Panama, Canada, Venezuela and Greenland are all in the crosshairs of Trump's manifest destiny. Europeans thought the risk was America would leave them alone. Now the risk is America will attack.

It's actually a plutocracy, especially when it comes to Big Oil and the military-industrial complex. (A great reason why politicians should have to dress like racing drivers.)

If they actually cared about "weather modification" they'd be doing something about fossil fuels.

"It's only bad when certain countries do it" is a very common mentality among the corporate media.

Because traveling abroad would make code officials more familiar with (and more open to) best practices from around the world.
December 30, 2025 at 5:52 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if many building code officials in the US don't travel internationally a lot or at all.
December 29, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Exactly that. (The "I" should stand for "Inferior", as that more aptly describes its codes.)
December 29, 2025 at 9:08 AM
There really isn't (at least not yet) - as was mentioned in a Slate article (which was about you!), building regulation is like the unfinished Tower of Babel, especially when compared to many other fields of knowledge.
December 29, 2025 at 8:54 AM
The US government has unfortunately always been extremely power-hungry, even well beyond its borders - it has zero respect for other countries' sovereignty, and countries need to start realizing this. (And this is an excellent reason why there really should be more non-US cloud service providers.)

The IBC and IFC don't require a lot of smoke detection, even for unsprinklered buildings (which aren't exactly possible under those codes).
No amount of smoke will make a sprinkler go off, the sprinklers do nothing until heat reaches it even if the room is smoke-filled. Movies get this very wrong.

The ADA issue would be a great opportunity to make a submission here, on the deregulation request form: www.regulations.gov/deregulation

I don't see a smoke detector in that picture, just a fire alarm strobe (which is just a notification device). The IBC and IFC's requirements for fire/smoke detection are generally minimal compared to what's common around the world.

Perhaps they're openings where window/wall AC units could go?
December 29, 2025 at 6:20 AM
And don't forget the war machine - the DOD (the world's biggest polluter) must use a huge amount of fossil fuels.
