VR is nothing like those other technologies. It wasn't ever used for any evil, meta just failed to see what people actually wanted for VR outside of relatively affordable headsets.

VR could be such a great tool for 3D art. When I made stuff on Dreams for PS4, I always modeled, built environments, and animated in VR because having the sense of scale and the physicality of the controls made building things much more natural than a keyboard and mouse ever could. (2/2)
