In a grotesque reenactment of the Untreated Syphilis Study at Tuskegee, RFK, Jr.’s Department of Health and Human Services provided a $1.6 million grant to two discredited Danish researchers to conduct a randomized control trial of the Hepatitis B vaccine in the African nation of Guinea-Bissau.

SCOTUS just endorsed racial profiling. In their 6-3 decision to allow roving ICE agents L.A., Kavanaugh wrote that it was reasonable to question people who meet “common sense” criteria for possible illegal presence — including employment in day labor or construction, and limited English proficiency.

From the Times: "Then Mr. Putin, who speaks English well enough to hold a conversation, and Mr. Trump got into the U.S. presidential limousine." Correction: "Then Mr. Putin, who speaks English well enough to hold a conversation, and Mr. Trump, who doesn't, got into the U.S. presidential limousine.

The Fourth of July: a holiday celebrating the urge to bombastically torture dogs due to resentment of their innocence, playfulness and inherent goodness, an urge increasingly reflective of broader institutional encouragement of sadism directed toward those with diminished cultural capital.

Annie Andrews. She's the woman who could actually unseat Lindsey Graham. And this might be the best campaign video ever...

I think we're seeing a self-coup unfolding, and I suspect there will be false flag attacks that will be used to justify the escalation to the Insurrection Act - and beyond. This photo stoked that fear. The iconography of that guy's outfit screams right-wing militia.

The heartwarming campaign against antisemitism at universities by white nationalists who have always loved Jews is now joined by "safety checks" at Nadler's NYC office. Orwellian fascism vs plain old jack-booted fascism. Masks optional.

Somehow this story has barely made it beyond the local Oklahoma City NBC affiliate, though it has been covered by Rachel Maddow.

On the day of the special election for two Florida House seats, Matt Gaetz whined about the possibility of a GOP loss, posting, “BUT the polls haven’t closed yet. There’s still a slither of hope.” Apparently, if you're a Republican, hope, like Gaetz himself, slithers...

The U.S. apparently has the world's largest number of incompetent terrorists. Homeland Security (and now the Social Security Administration) are busily claiming to have identified thousands of suspected terrorists, yet we've had no terror attacks. Are all those terrorists actually DOGE employees?

Whipsawed between utter stupidity and cynical brilliance.

An example of the former from Trump: "An old fashioned term that we use -- groceries. I used it on the campaign. It's such an old fashioned term, but a beautiful term. Groceries. It says a bag with different things in it."

It's often said that capitulating to authoritarian powerplays merely encourages escalation. True that. Today T...p released yet another memorandum, this one broadening the attack on "Big Law" to include all lawyers who challenge his policies.

It's critical for supporters of reproductive rights to help elect Susan Crawford to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Elon Musk's PAC has spent some $6.6M to elect her right wing opponent and has paid canvassers to knock on over a million doors - all to advance Trump's agenda. www.crawfordforwi.com

Today Trump restored the security clearances for Paul, Weiss, Rifkind. Backing down due to the expressions of outrage from the broader legal community?

Nope. the firm has agreed to dedicate $40 million in pro bono services “to support the Administration’s initiatives" & to abandon DEI policies.

It's so touching that the Christian Nationalist right wing is suddenly devoted to the elimination of antisemitism. To state the obvious, support for Palestinian justice and opposition to the right-wing Netanyahu government are not antisemitic. They are at the heart of humanistic Jewish values.

The stable genius strikes again: Trump's been repeatedly citing funding of research on "transgender mice" as an example of government waste. Turns out the study referred to "transgenic" mice (i.e., mice with DNA implanted from a different species) used in medical research. 🤯

Trump at the SOTU: "I have created the brand new Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE ... Which is headed by Elon Musk" OOPS! The DOJ has been claiming in court that Musk isn't the head of DOGE. Plaintiffs in one of the many DOGE cases filed a Notice of New Evidence before the night was out.

The ruling stopping Trump's blocking of funding for gender affirming care included this slap-down: “The Court cannot fathom discrimination more direct than the plain pronouncement of a policy resting on the premise that the group to which the policy is directed does not exist."
