REEL formed when three refugees from The Psychedelic Duelling Wars congealed in the psychic wreckage of a Somerset studio to record Wild Garlick electronics, eschatological ambience & brown acid techno on adapted bits of farm machinery & petrol cans

I really love this Burgess book - found lots of authors in here - so it’s quite exciting that there’s a podcast about it

Also, Wikipedia does a pretty good job for a lot of books, if you really don’t have time to read the book or you wanted to check something you’ve forgotten from one you have. The slow accumulation and unfolding of a book IS the activity… this is taking a (probably red) pill instead of eating a meal

I love The Cure.

From pearlmania500 (via @cookiepusher.bsky.social):

The Cure doing a DMCA take down of ICE propaganda that used "Friday I'm in love" is making this Monday Just like heaven.

I love the English lyrics, fit the dream-like derangement quite well… if a little sinister

I think he’s deadly serious - but probably only as serious as The Hafler Trio

REEL related shenanigans from Farmer Glitch (with input from Dr Edward Moolenbeek ??!!). Seriously trippy stuff. Had us all zoning out last week… eastvillevending.bandcamp.com/album/masked...

Watching Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986) for the first time since it came out on VHS. Funnier than I remembered.
The movie poster. All green light & metal hive pod things. The legend. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I know you’re worrying about what to wear / how to act etc & there’s a certain delirious fun to that second guessing but, by the time you get to 40, you’ll just be wearing & doing things you did at 18 all over again because you’ve realised you can & there are no rules & no one is looking anyway

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

First impression, just a few chapters in, it would make a good double bill with Muriel Spark’s The Driver’s Seat
The Driver's Seat
A metaphysical shocker now filmed starring Elizabeth Taylor (she’s on the cover)

Stations of the 5000!!??!! I’m going to bed…
rapideyeelectro.bsky.social
Me too. But then my mum found the lyric sheets to Stations of the 5000 and made me take it down

Alien as loveable sidekick was just not weird enough. Love the idea of family audiobook, though - and haven’t read Children of Time but might need to check it out now
rapideyeelectro.bsky.social
Enjoyed it, sort of. Enjoyed basic science etc being so foregrounded

Project Hail Mary came with quite a few recommendations but it seemed very much like it was aimed at children / YAs
Andy Weir’s novel, showing a guy going a spacewalk / EVA - he’s the author of The Martian, don’t you know

Now reading Edna O’Brien’s August Is A Wicked Month.

I’d take August, right now though.
The cover also adds in ‘despite sun & sex’ above the title & the photograph is of a naked woman, her hand lightly covering her breast. She looks a bit, chilly to be honest.

Postie brought me these lovely things today.
With all these and having seen @warringtonruncorn.com on Saturday night, I’m having quite a @castlesinspace.bsky.social week

Oh I love them, didn’t know they had a new record out though

In my head the music is made entirely of samples of sighs and gasps from Nosferatu & screams from Possession, a la Bjork’s Medulla

Just finished Kim Stanley Robinson’s Antarctica (liked it, especially all the Scott, Amundsen, Shackleton stuff) & now trying to convince family to go there for Summer holidays…
The cover of the book shows a big ice shelf in a windy basin
