We found that lizards from highlands presented less and bigger scales than lizards from lowlands, as a potential adaptation to decrease water loss in arid and windy environments (mountains).

We investigated if Podarcis muralis' dorsal and ventral scale number and dimension varied with climatic and altitudinal conditions using lizards from Spain and Italy.
