I know intellectually that paper weight matters because hello my job, but it is still WILD to hold the @subpress.bsky.social edition and standard hardcover edition of the same book and be able to immediately clock the weight difference when taking one book off the shelf and putting the other book on
When you're innocently drinking coffee and @subpress.bsky.social sends an email saying they have extra copies of a book you want from an author you desperately want to be on the preorder list for and you slam buy and yay you made it before it sold out again and lolsob your budget and that happened

it took a ridiculous number of hours, and I did a wild amount of thinking through my party's character builds, but I managed an honor run on BG3! *falls over*

Also, fun fact: if you complete an honor run before a tactician run, you get both trophies. 🤣

I just finished A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher (v. enjoyable, do recommend if the description sounds like remotely your jam), and I understand why everyone mentions THE HORSE, because, well, that sure was a thing.

But, friends, I am *dying* at the library.

Me, a few hours ago: Birds of America is fairly popular, surely I will easily be able to find a scan of the engraved title page

This sure was a thing I thought

Lovely people!

Several years ago, I wrote a book called MIDDLEGAME. I still think it's one of the best things I've ever written. It's about math and language and alchemy and sibling relationships and breaking things and fixing things and growing up.

🤦🏻‍♀️ I started my week with an email flub (autocomplete adresses going to the wrong people) and ended my week with an email flub (being in the wrong point in the thread when I hit reply

(Nothing tragic or full of WOE, just… I swear I can use this technology I have been using for decades now)

I was in Boston for a long weekend, and the funniest tiny thing that I had missed was the sun rising and setting when it should.

(Why isn't Indiana Central time, she cried for the nth time. 😭) (Yes, I know it's a whole thing, but the sun!)

I'm visiting a friend with two very good dogs, and the vibe is very "you have two hands for a reason"

Okay, but what if we all rebelled and started using mailing lists again instead of ALA Connect

Reader, I went to the bookstore to purchase one specific book.

I did not walk out of the bookstore with one (1) book. 😂

Also: completely ready to burn this goblin keep to the ground, can I please be done with it yet 😭

(so. squishy.)
Friends, I started Baldur's Gate 3.

Thus far I have have managed two total party kills (they're so damn squishy!), a blessing from Loviatar, ~persuading a goblin to kiss my boot, and becoming encumbered by picking up too many corpses. Party's overarching vibe: fake it 'til you make it

The sun rises SO LATE here, getting up in the morning is screamingly difficult. Why isn't Indiana on central time 😭

(there's a sizable wikipedia article on that very question)

When you're convening a Zoom meeting on a new work laptop and the battery dies 10 minutes before the meeting end 😂

(It was fine -- a very chill and informal discussion group -- but it was rather flustering!)

So, I have unpacked everything packed by movers after moving halfway across the country, and I can't locate three things: the lids to the Calamity Ware tea pot and sugar bowl and Legends & Lattes by @travisbaldree.bsky.social 😭

Although it does make me laugh that they match?

I decided my reward for getting all of the *other* boxes emptied is to unpack and organize my books. 😂

Sometimes I feel like a parody of myself, lololol

Really feeling the liminality as I drink my Dunkin in the Boston airport 😆
I'm relocating to the Midwest, and I just spent my last night in Worcester. It's strange and a bit bittersweet-- I've lived here longer than anywhere else in my adult life -- but it's time.

No, seriously, where do they all COME from?

(Or, the results of cleaning and organizing one's office -- one finds out exactly how many of the little tape measures have found their way into one's possession 😂)

So, the American Antiquarian Society's catalog has records for almost all ESTC titles with United States imprints, and the ESTC number is in the record and searchable. (This includes titles that AAS doesn't hold.
