You don't even need to be as brave as the people in ice cold Minnesota.

All you need to do is start chatting with the people you care about. /fin

And if you're still too scared? There's good news:

You don't have to be as brave as the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy or Iwo Jima.

You don't have to be as brave as the semi literate sharecroppers who broke the back of Jim Crow. /13

• Learn how local elections work, or the nuts & bolts behind groups plans, or study the Civil Rights movement. /12

• If you’re a lawyer, reach out to groups like Democracy Docket. If you know a cop or someone else in the judicial system, ask about the plans to protect voters. /11

• Find out who your city council person or mayor is and call them to find out their plans to protect you and your neighbors‘ right to vote. Better yet, get two of your friends to call too. If they don’t have plans? Tell them you’ll be calling back till they do. /10

• Join a group. My two cents: join Indivisible. They’re smart organizers, they have local chapters everywhere, and they’ve been key to the "No More Kings" rallies. Plus, friends who've joined seem to be having fun. /9

• If you host a party for July 4th, Labor Day, or Halloween, chat with your co-organizers about doing something small at the event to help guests join the tidal wave /8

• Are you in a PTA, church, or a local hobby group? Start chatting to folks there. See if even a handful will commit to organizing when it's time. In Minnesota, regular neighbors who’d never been activists are standing up to ICE by having each other's backs. /7

Why does this "one easy trick" work? Grassroots organizers and lawyers are already figuring out the nuts and bolts.

As we get closer to the election, they’ll tell us what needs to be done. All we need to do is be ready to step up. /5

Just don’t be obnoxious about it. Don't lecture or harass or show off. Or talk people's ear off. Just casually chat with the people you care about.

And if they’re scared, help them turn that fear into power by (gently) encouraging them to chat with the people they know. /4

So, get ready to be part of that tidal wave — and help your friends and neighbors do the same /3

Today, there are two things we know for a fact:

1. Trump is a bully, and like most bullies, when enough people stand up to him, he folds

2. If a tidal wave of people vote and stand together right before and after the election, it is almost statistically impossible to steal it /2
