Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

There’s a lot of crazy stuff happening, but this is just insane.
This firefighter arrived in the US at age 4, has been here for 19 years, was on track to legal status, and was on a crew trying to contain a major blaze (in Washington state, vs Oregon, fwiw.)

I was fortunate enough to get to see Brian Wilson perform Smile live in Boston when the album came out. There wasn’t a dry eye anywhere in the auditorium. Just a beautiful moment that I’ll never forget.

My 1959 Cessna Skywagon is in the shop for an engine overhaul for the next few months. I find myself looking back at last summer’s adventures. Here, camping at Red’s Horse Ranch in the Wallowas of eastern Oregon.
