Similar: scarlet fever when I was 6 or 7. I'd be a child death statistic without antibiotics and vaccines.

Small Twitch streamers and charity speedrun streams/VODs.

It resembles the LIPS (live interactive picture system) from the Sakura Wars games. Just with <spoiler> questions instead of 1 or 2. Because this is Grasshopper Manufacture, not Red Company :).

Technically Kimba and Speed Racer, but Yamato (Star Blazers) and Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) were the first I understood as being Japanese imports.

First doctor was Pertwee.

And then there was the time The Guess Who were invited to perform on the White House Lawn. They were politely asked not to perform "American Woman" after someone informed Mrs. Nixon what the lyrics *really* mean. Conservatives misinterpreting "patriotic" songs? SSDD.

What if... and follow me here... what if the "staffer" was Donald J. Trump?

Got the former done some years ago, the latter (both doses) last year. But thank you for the reminder.

Move to Boston.
Highs in the mid 20s, lows in the single digits.
Fahrenheit.
Foot and a half of snow from the storm last week.
But it *was* sunny today!

Now I need to learn how to mod Kerbal Space Program to add Johnscalzi to the Kerbol system.

The happy people move on because we don't want to sit in that cesspit. Been there, did that, used to operate and moderate a half dozen RPG and fandom mailing lists in the late '80s, early '90s.

IANAL but... "exclusive, irrevocable"? This isn't a publishing contract. This is a "you agree that everything you ever write forever is work for hire for us" contract. If you're fuzzy on the whole "work for hire" thing? Go read up on what the Kowalski family did to Bob Ross.

As long as Mozilla keep the AI slop an option, even one I have to disable, I will continue using main line Firefox. Because as much as I hate Mozilla jumping on the AI slop bandwagon, I recognize that being competitive today requires getting on board.

Popularity is not, and never has been, a measure of quality.
December 4, 2025 at 9:58 PM
It was never true at Crunchyroll. The guy who founded the company started out *selling* other groups' fansubs, and used that seed money to try to put fansubbers "out of business" by pumping out subs faster than the fansubbers. It was never about quality. It was about speed.

Could be. I might just be reading into it based on things Young and Shaw said in their VH1 "Behind The Music" episode and how the Kilroy Was Here tour was an unpleasant time for the band (it tore the band apart).
November 28, 2025 at 12:39 AM
Makes sense. There's bad blood between the band (Young/Shaw) and Dennis DeYoung, so covering the cover lets the band play the song while keeping the separation from DeYoung.

Just like Baron Harkonnen in Dune when Duke Leto broke open his poison tooth.

When I was younger and these were running on the local PBS station (Channel 2, you know it), Baker was my favorite. Over time I came to appreciate Pertwee's Doctor over Baker's.

There was a Kindle version of "Excession" in 2019. Do you know if anything is different about this edition?

Making payments on a debt generally is good for one's credit rating. I don't know that this is the reason. It's only a reason.

According to Nasu, ALL of these different timelines and branches are canon. So even though Heracles isn't in /zero, he's still canonically Archer class, except in /sn where he's Berserker by name as well as by class.
Did I mention that it's a fucking mess?
September 17, 2025 at 1:06 AM
The lore reason is because Gilgamesh isn't Archer in the F/sn Grail War. He's Archer from the previous Grail War.
The narrative reason is that would get confusing because Archer is Rin's servant.
The meta reason is that the Greater Nasu-verse is a fucking mess. I say that as a (former) F/GO player.
September 17, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Because "Berserker" is who Heracles is under that summoning clause. He's not Heracles any more. He's Berserker.
Heracles would be Archer class when summoned normally.
