I think there are a lot of people who live with functioning AI psychosis, which is similar to functioning alcoholism. They can do all the basics that society expects of people, but only because every step of the way, they have AI to "guide" them and validate them.

But there's a huge problem there: who would want to play as Kentucky? Everyone would like to play as the Union or Confederacy, meaning any efforts the devs put into those other factions will be a waste of time.

There's a lot more room for players to do stuff as individual domains in the Boshin War than there is in the American Civil War, unless you incorporate alternate history scenarios of a kind that the more grognard fans will complain about.
