That being said, in today's publishing environment you will likely need those skills as trad pubs do not market your books for you anymore. Your sales will depend on those skills, so it is good to learn them now.

Don't bring yourself down like that. You are correct. All that should matter is the writing. So query. Keep querying. It is what I am doing. No pitch decks there. Just the hope that the agent reading your letter didn't stub their toe that morning and is cheery enough not to auto pass 😅

This is only my opinion, but in today's world you have time know how to pitch hard and fast. Visuals catch attention. Agents only want to make a decision based on 5 pages. The guides are just another way to get noticed.
