One of the reasons the Jack Smith investigations seemed to take forever is because Biden's DoJ *did* have their hands around the evidence before they indicted. And they'd have convicted, too, if it weren't for those pesky SCOTUS fellas. 1/

Hey, you guys? Is it a good sign or a bad sign if the prosecution is just getting its hands around the evidence *after* it criminally charged the former FBI director?

At one point during the hearing, the judge asked the prosecution why the case can’t be tried before mid-December.

Lemons replied: We are “just getting our hands around” discovery in the case.

There’s lots of it, he added, and it includes a “significant” amount of classified information.

Yeah, I think that's really good methodology.

faction of the public that are simply afraid of freedom, which is a distressing thought.
ravenonthill.bsky.social
oh yeah. but it does matter to the wider public. I keep having to explain that these are the sort of people who are likely to find you a meal and a place to stay, not bomb-throwers; they will rumble with Nazis, but are otherwise largely pacific. So far, a hard row to hoe.

I think there's a large

The people who said that were the German Communists, so this is red-baiting. The term has shifted in meaning since, and currently people who identify as antifa—not the same as the much larger group who simply oppose fascism—are largely pacific anarchists.

some economists in the social sciences are a lot like some physicists in the physical sciences; they think they know how to tell everybody else their jobs.

BTW, if anyone is interested in reducing US housing costs, they need to improve the regulation of landlords. The public does not trust

Just blocked someone who is looking for names of people in the US building code development process. These names are easily available on line. The man is a consultant in the field, and there's no way you can have any senior expertise in AEC and not know a bit about code development. I reviewed his

I nearly was on one of the technical committees. So I am one or two handshakes away from most of them. Here's the ICC board; there are bios, all with long histories in building safety. You can go to their web site and find lots more; there's nothing secret about their identity or qualifications.

I am left thinking that a great many people feel threatened by freedom, which is not at all comfortable thought.

And then there's antifa. Actual antifa is this tiny loosely-organized network of people that are more likely to find you a meal and a place to stay than do anything violent; they rumble with the fash but are not there to kill. But, no, they're made out to be this huge threat.

When you talk about cost benefit analysis, the members of the technical committees and standards council are all professionals in their fields. They are aware of costs and do account for them. When I hear "cost benefit analysis," I think "landlords being cheap and endangering tenants."

The half million dead so far are only the beginning. Curse the man, and the Congressional Republicans who ratified this.

The Guard under state authority against ICE under federal? I don't know how the courts would rule, but I do think that the Trump administration would respond by escalating.

Never underestimate miserliness as a motivation in democratic politics, especially local politics.
ravenonthill.bsky.social
Or maybe European codes are influenced by landlords and historical practices. That tower that burnt up in London was no doubt approved by local governments.

What you say about code authorities is not true, BTW.

LOL! It has. This is what real anarchists do. It's much more effective than throwing bombs.

It's one of the founding issues of the United States, and part of the stated motivation for the Second Amendment; controlling a bad king's abuse of the military—the "well-regulated militia" was supposed to be under the authority of the states, not the federal government.

Damn it! How many biographies of obscure people do you know?

Heck, he's cool with them dying if they can't pay.
