The fact that the dollar continues to drop and gold explode even after Greenland was put on the back burner is not a great sign.

The market seems to be realizing that these are just pauses before the next crisis and pricing accordingly.

If AVs reduce serious crashes by 90%, you are expecting a 10x increase in miles driven?

Waymo’s data isn’t definitive but it is 127 million miles on surface streets and ignoring it doesn’t make it go away. It is likely that this is the worst it will ever be as well.

I think the ~20,000 deaths and ~1 million injuries per year would make it fairly obvious why automated driving would be a good thing for Europe.

The why isn't particularly complicated.

While you will have to drive billions of miles to get significant confidence in the fatality numbers, you need a far lower number of miles for the injury/airbag deployment numbers

127 million miles and significant crashes are down 90% vs human drivers on surface streets.

That means something.

Waymo publishes the data for their serious crashes (under the download data section).

Journalists and researchers have gone through them individually and it appears the vast majority of incidents have been due to other drivers.

Hope the trend continues with highways.

There are so many better ways to tax the rich.

This is tax policy based on rage rather than effectiveness. You’ll pay the political costs and get few of the desired gains.

I hope the people making the regulatory frameworks are carefully looking at the safety data.

Currently, roughly 40,000 people fatalities each year in the US from crashes and 2-3 million ER visits. We could make a dramatic dent in those numbers over time.

Where does pedestrian and driver safety lie in your list of priorities for your city?
October 31, 2025 at 10:46 PM
I think it means you won’t have much of a chance to get out. Everybody is playing the same game and there is very little conviction.

DeepSeek Monday on steroids is my baseline expectation for how this ends.

But the music’s still playing and likely will for a while.

Government by mob boss is always going to lead to some terrible outcomes.

But the odds of Intel surviving as a leading edge node vendor did go up.
August 22, 2025 at 10:10 PM
The mobster in chief's ego is now invested in Intel's success.

232 tariffs are still coming and investments/orders with Intel are a cheaper way to get an exemption (or a licence to export to China) than building a fab.

Trump gets to make a big announcement and tweet about Intel's stock price.

Turn the devices off and they'll need the password to get access.

Nothing requires you to give it (versus the possibility that FaceID is used to unlock your device without your permission).

And we grew up in incomparable abundance compared to our parents generation (particularly true for any child of immigrants).

It is really hard to figure out where to draw the line.

Restaurants got instagrammed (neon signs and greenery everywhere).

Experiences will get tiktokked.

Zuck/Sam/Elon will spend every last dime and the rest will follow. Think Satya is the only one that would be willing to turn first and they just blew the doors off and guided to $30 billion in capex spending next quarter.

Doesn’t feel like this is ending anytime soon.

3x bull etf is way better.

Shorting it gives you the bonus of time decay.

Turns out there is at least one decent owner in sports.

We don’t live up to them but aspiring to those values puts limits on the morality that’s put into practice.

Same thing happened yesterday afternoon, a sizeable move down on zero news.

That’s my understanding. It was from two days ago and he references the bill elsewhere in the thread.
