It is the responsibility of government to promote "the tranquility of order." Inflammatory rhetoric, excessive force, gross exaggeration, violent behavior, & misrepresenting the facts do not promote peace, conflict. Sadly, some people want conflict. Or do not know the things that make for peace.

Time to reread the opening line of the Constitution and remember that the power that establishes government lies with THE PEOPLE. When leaders use the powers we delegate to them to silence critics and punish political rivals, they cross a bright line. “It’s a republic, if you can keep it.”

This how tariffs inefficiencies grow. Favored groups in the leader’s base get relief from the predictable blow back. This relief is paid by the tariff taxes we pay on imports. Meanwhile tariffs have put manufacturing in decline, bumped inflation, and budget deficits going to be bigger than ever.

This makes me sad. When I read about how we brutalized the Koreans (leading them to abandon the factory in GA), see video of ICE thugs behaving cruelly, watch the president fire DoJ prosecutors who won't go after his political enemies, and watch the erosion of First Amendment freedoms.

It is hard to imagine a more careless view of human life, brazen admission of lawlessness, or deeper betrayal of American values and commitment to the rule of law than Vice President J.D. Vance's joke, "If I were Venezuelan, I wouldn't go fishing right now."

The attack on science and knowledge is reminiscent of previous cultural revolutions. We will be poorer, sicker, and dumber for it.
