Would have been great if the actual writers had planned that as a capstone to the saga and not literally just stumbled into it.

Anakin is "already a great pilot" not because he's some kid podracer but because he's a highly gifted pilot who navigates the gravitational distortions of the twin suns to save Kenobi/Padme.

One way I could see ep1 going would have been to kill of Quigon on Naboo at the beginning, have Kenobi and Padme escape the blockade via a blind hyperspace jump, have them torn out of hyperspace via gravity of the twin suns of tattooine and then freighter pilot anakin Skywalker saves them.

I have no issue with any of the actors. I just would have not started the PT with a child Anakin, in fact I probably would have started ep1 with a fully adult Anakin...and probably an older Anakin even in ep1.

It's an interesting exercise to work through a PT that doesn't reveal the twins or that Vader is Anakin.

The lie (sorry it IS a lie) Kenobi tells Luke in ep4 becomes the truth of the PT...or some version of it.

2. How should you watch the PT/OT? In episode order? PT after OT?

If you watch in episodic order...do you structure the PT to preserve the twists of the OT?

Anakin = Vader
Luke and Leia are siblings

CAN it even be done...if you wanted to?

To step back a bit...at a high level, I there are two things I would consider when envisioning a PT:

1. Do narratively bookend it like a mythology vs seeing it as "fact"? Is it a story being told to us by R2 or Luke, etc. Is the visual esthetic more decadent...dreamlike... Arthorian Legend?

Anakin lacked a gravity and a tragedy I think the PT required.

I also think the ages were all off. Anakin and Kenobi should have been in their 40/50s and the actors should have reflected that.

I really enjoyed the article! A rework of the PT in the vein of Andor would be awesome.

Here are some of my random thoughts about a remained PT....

- As conflicted as I felt about Ahsoka S1, when I saw Baylan, my immediate reaction was "this should have been how Anakin was portrayed"

I found ep1 fine at the time I saw it in theaters (same as TFA).

Ep2 is pretty clunky and I was underwhelmed by ep3.

I just disagreed with almost all the narrative/lore decisions Lucas made.

(Also disliked the OT retcons).

I disagreed with basically every narrative/lore decision Lucas made in the prequels. 😆

“Artoo, you take good care of Master Luke now, understand?”

["He's gonna end up a broken hermit just like that other guy."]

“And do take good care of yourself.”

["Oh I'll be fine...but...you'll be mind wiped to read a Sith McGuffin."]

“Oh, dear. Oh, dear.”
