As an aside, very impt to note this summary is not just recent sightings. Been a long, long time since Māui dolphins were around Taranaki sadly. Not shown but region is becoming a major highway for humpbacks on the way to New Caledonia & Australia. It’s tricky!

Really hoping the research looks at more than just the hoiho. Many missed opportunities to understand the benefits to the less well-considered species when protection’s put in place.
