I read a book!
🇺🇸 Neuromancer - William Gibson (1984)
I started reading this months ago while playing Cyberpunk. Really visionary & impressive & influential. Also incredibly dense & hard to read. I gave up early trying to fully grasp what’s going on. Occasionally compelling but mostly frustrating.

Zootopia 2 (2025)
Retreads a lot of the same ground but I enjoyed it. I wanted more Judy & Nick showcasing their wits & guile but Nick felt reduced to grinning background character at times. Kind of wish they just continued the story in an animated series.

🇺🇸 The Holiday
🇯🇵 ホリディ
2006 (Netflix)
Cheesy feel-good chick flick I’m sure my Mom would love. Predictable & pleasant & fine. I never really loved Cameron Diaz & Jack Black plays some bizarro neutered version of himself, but I liked Kate Winslet & Jude Law.

I platinumed a game! 🏆
Far Cry 6 (PS5)
⏱️ 71h
🟢 The world is so alive & unpredictable
🟢 Action is always fun
🟢 You can learn Spanish swear words
🟡 Your weapons feel OP early on
🟡 Story is kind of an anticlimax
💭 I loved the amigos. Shout out to Chicharron, Guapo & Chorizo!
⭐️ Great (8.5/10)

I feel like Reddit is trying a new “wtf is this” ad engagement strategy today. Some weird rusted AirBnb kill shed & this guy?

I watched a TV show!
Dark S1 (2017) [Netflix]
A German time travel mystery thriller. Interesting story but the finale didn’t answer enough questions. Very hard to keep track of all the characters & their different versions thru time. Watching in German w/ Japanese subtitles didn’t help my confusion.

I watched a TV show!
The Good Place S1 (2016) (Netflix)
Very watchable & generally entertaining show. Can’t say I was laughing all that much but I was thinking “this is an interesting and/or humorous situation” pretty regularly.

I started a new game!
Planet Coaster 2 (2024) [PS5] #psplus
I love a good sim game around the holidays, sucking my free time into the void with surprising speed. I played & enjoyed the 1st one. This seems mostly the same plus pools & “flumes”. Fun! But stuff like making paths connect can suck.

🇺🇸 The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
🇯🇵 最高のクリスマスページェント
2024 (U-NEXT)
I went to church as a kid & I may have felt the warmth & magic of it all on rare occasion. I enjoyed the Imogene character & her family, but the final payoff (the pageant) felt a little thin to me.

🇺🇸 Jingle Bell Heist
🇯🇵 クリスマスイブには強盗を
2025 (Netflix)
Feels like the filmmakers used every idea they could think of for why I should root for the main characters to pull off their heist, but I didn’t really care. The planning phase was goofy & bad & there was no romantic chemistry

I watched a TV show!
The Beast in Me (2025) [Netflix]
I love Claire Danes & Matthew Rhys, and any scene they are in is compelling. This feels like top-class tv at times, but honestly cheap & predictable at others. Overall it was good, but regrettably not great.

🇺🇸 Wicked
🇯🇵 ウィキッド ふたりの魔女
2024 (Prime)
My default mode for musicals is dislike, w/ the possibility of being won over. I hate the unnatural feeling of suddenly singing & joyously dancing just for the sake of it. Wicked mostly felt weird, but ended strongly & had a few good songs.

I read a book!
🇯🇵 地獄星レミナ - 伊藤潤二
🇺🇸 Hellstar Remina - Junji Ito
An evil sentient planet is attacking earth & huge mobs of people blame you! I didn’t love how the story progressed but it was an enjoyable ride. The bonus story 億万ぼっち was great.

A life story told in moments. Lonely & cruel but compelling & beautiful.

🇺🇸 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
🇯🇵 ジュマンジ/ウェルカム・トゥ・ジャングル
2017 (Prime)
This was a great popcorn flick. Decent laughs, action & heart. Just as the credits started rolling & I was thinking “hey I’d watch another one of these”, the sequel popped up to watch next 👍

🇺🇸 A Merry Little Ex-Mas
🇯🇵 メリー・リトル・エックスマス
2025 (Netflix)
It’s “made for TV”rom-com Christmas movie season on Netflix! Starring Alicia Silverstone? This started out pretty cringe but came around to be a decent movie for what it is.

I platinumed a game! 🏆
Skate. (PS5)
⏱️ 87h
Despite the laundry list of complaints you can make, I haven’t spent any real money & I’ve gotten a lot of enjoyment from this game. Still needs proper online multiplayer, player-made challenges & parks, etc.

I thought this paper clip I found was a knife-wielding drifter, but it’s just that kid carrying wood & reading a book who’s always memorialized in front of Japanese elementary schools.

🇺🇸 The Woman in Cabin 10
🇯🇵 第10客室の女
2025 (Netflix)
Starts off compelling, like an Agatha Christie novel, but just as you start guessing whodunnit they drop the whole explanation on your plate, and it all unravels into something kind of ridiculous. I liked Keira Knightley though.

🇺🇸 Robot Dreams
🇯🇵 ロボット・ドリームズ

A Spanish-French animation with no dialog. Really charming movie. Lovely art style. You start off with a “this is cute and all but what exactly am I watching here?” feeling, but it really gets you in the end.
