If I’d gone from playing that system, winning a trophy, players to return and a generous amount spent in the transfer window, to playing this system I’d be, err… frustrated too.

Go wide, then the wingers cut in to a congested area. So go back. Then wide, then lose the ball having created nothing.
It’s predictable, slow and has no creativity.

Scramble a goal and hope they don’t bother trying to equalise.

18 goals taken out of last seasons total. Replaced with 2 (?) from Kudus so far.

1st was usual safety first no risk nothingness.
10 minutes to go, handbrake came off. Shows what can be done.
Really frustrating it’s not done more often!!

Yep. We don’t take this option. We prefer to score a goal by giving the ball back to the keeper with everyone marked and him kicking it out of play on the 1/2 way line.
Not seen the XG for this, but I’m guessing it’s lower than shooting from 25 yards.

Completing passes is easy if they are 10 yards sideways on the edge of your box with the opposition on the half way line.
I saw something the other week that we’d played 1 through ball all season. Everything else is played out wide for aimless crosses to be easily headed away.

Exciting stuff.
And a peace award was given out someone no one expected.

Newcastle away next!!

1-0 to us?
Or 4+-0 to them?

Defence is worse than last season.
Attack is less threatening.
Set pieces predictable.
Nothing from open play.
Too robotic
Too safe
Too sideways
Possession for the sake of it.
Too slow to restart from set pieces
No one running beyond the forwards
Centre backs have the ball and no options for a pass

Not sure what happened at the end. Looked like some players were going off and got turned round by Frank?

No idea where we go from here. This football is unwatchable negative rubbish.

If Liverpool weren’t doing so badly the media would be all over him!

I hope you’re right. I’ve a feeling he will continue to play a version of this football though. Even with a few different players.

Currently not looking forward to Wednesday night!

Add in the first half against Man Utd.
This is about as bad as it gets.
November 23, 2025 at 8:14 PM
That’s what they want you to think!! 🙂
October 30, 2025 at 10:20 PM
So why is it light at night then?
Sun isn’t!!
October 28, 2025 at 9:34 PM
I played my first 11 a side game for over 20 years 2 weeks ago.

Hope you don’t have much to do tomorrow!!

(Good fun isn’t it 🙂)

XG isn’t designed to be looked at in isolation.
Is a guide over a number of games as to what you should be getting.
Scoring more than XG means we’re doing things better than a computer simulation thinks.
I think we need to create more from open play. But that doesn’t seem popular in modern football.

Accurate passes.

Again, can mean anything.
October 4, 2025 at 9:45 PM
Other than total shots. Which can mean anything, it’s pretty close.
October 4, 2025 at 9:45 PM
The stats are quite similar. Was pretty even match. They huffed and puffed without doing too much.
We still look a bit lightweight in attack. Need Solanke to mix things up a bit.

You been reading about eastern bloc gymnastics?
June 13, 2025 at 10:12 PM
If we get to the final, I can’t see this happening.

If not, I expect people will turn up late, leave early for half time, not rush back and head home early as many did during the Forest game.
May 6, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Add to that our wingers are now hugging the touchline, but no quick switches of play, just leaves us short when we inevitably lose the ball.

Quick free kicks, no one ready, end up going backwards and keeper under pressure with no where to go.

Individual mistakes getting punished.
April 23, 2025 at 7:22 PM
I think a lot of our defensive issues come from giving the ball away cheaply in dangerous positions.

So, a midfielder at the back actually helped avoid this happening as much!

We look shaky at set pieces.
Far too slow to respond when Forest didn’t just throw it into the box.
April 23, 2025 at 7:17 PM
Sonny looked lost on Thursday. There seems no team spirit or way of playing.
I hate to say it as I hoped this would work out, but I think it’s run its course.
Will winning the Europa change that? I don’t think so.

Will it be rinse and repeat? History would suggest so!!
April 13, 2025 at 10:00 PM
Think I was there. If it ended 3-2 I almost certainly was.
