This week I finished THE TESTAMENTS by Margaret Atwood.

5 stars on The Storygraph because it shows that even within oppressive systems, transformation, and resilience can spark hope.

What a time!

Book 13 on the year. 108% of my goal. Over 4,100 pages!🥇

I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars out of 5. I felt like some parts of it fell flat, I kept thinking how much of a brat the daughter was, and the ending was kind of meh. But the big themes of the book, I loved.

My June book. ALL THIS COULD BE DIFFERENT. Being from MKE, I enjoyed this book. I could picture the bars & restaurants mentioned. I loved the exploration of chosen family + the challenges to capitalism, gender & romantic love woven in the narrative. I’d read a sequel if there were one.

My dog is interested in what I’m doing while I ignore him. But I finished my 9th book of this year. Gonna crush my modest goal to read 12 books in 2025. ❤️👏🏾📚

Milwaukee County Parks is launching a Jr Lifeguard Program! For a water city, this is so great for kids aged 12-15. I’m happy to have played a small role in getting 50% scholarships for kids without having to demonstrate “need.” This is how we advance equity. county.milwaukee.gov/EN/Parks/Wha....

I had the sweetest time at 414loral building my own bouquet with my girlfriends. Calla lilies, dahlias, and joy in every stem. I’ve never done anything like it before—choosing blooms and fillers lit me up. I cannot stop smiling! Located on King Drive in MKE, 414loral is Black woman-owned.

Some books I have read (red) this year. Currently reading skin & bones by Renèe Watson. I picked up a copy at Niche Book Bar, a Black, woman-owned bookshop on King Drive in Milwaukee, WI.

I loved working on this.

“When high-profile events draw in massive crowds, public health emergencies and catastrophic weather events demand a skilled workforce managing human safety with operational and situational awareness.”

i have loved Jacqueline Woodson since college where i first discovered If You Come Softly while working at a library. anyway, a few days into march, and i just finished Hush. told from the pov of a 12yo little Black girl, it was beautiful, evergreen, and striking. lots of themes i could relate to.

this was my february read. this book masterfully intertwines the lives of 12 Black British woman in a beautifully complex, but relatable way. the writing is technically challenging and engaging. 💚
