I understand we all hate AI and want to make sure we aren't accidentally letting it into our spaces but when people throw around accusations based on shit they don't even understand and tear down other real artists and writers? That pisses me off.

The current generative models cannot be prompted to not use em dashes. It prefers them nearly to the exclusion of other compound punctuation. I think that has gotten lost in translation and has a lot of people accusing people of using AI based on complete nonsense.

Folks who say "em dashes are a giveaway of AI writing" have a fundamental misunderstanding of the em dash problem. It is not that AI "uses em dashes a lot", it's that AI uses em dashes excessively and inappropriately.
