That’s vile beyond comprehension.

When my son was first hired for teaching job in rural Iowa, he made $24,000 a year. This was around 2006. How in God‘s name do you think people are going to be able to live on wage like that in a job like that? I don’t think you understand the nature of teaching, what it takes.

No.

One of the fun things on a RAGBRAI I rode a few years ago is that we got to climb Twister Hill in Iowa on our bicycles. Twister Hill is where you see the tornado come down the road in that movie.

This is a great one. Very much out of Mwandishi, but a great electronic jazz disc.

5 below here in Davenport this morning. And I just moved back here from Dallas! Where it is 70 degrees warmer.

How in God's name did Gladiator win over Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?

As a kid teenager in the late 60s, this record was one of the greatest ones I ever heard. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Aplington is about 40 miles from Cedar Rapids, and has just 1100 residents. It is out in the corn fields. I've ridden 13 RAGBRAIs and I cannot ever recall it going through that town.

I had Machine Gun, but lost it in floods that damaged my LP collection. I also had Last Exit- and I miss that stuff. I did not have any ICP material though I had heard some of it way back in the day.

It was just another meaningless question and answer. It’s designed to make people think that Congress is doing something, when they’re not. Lots of noise, but never any action.

The absolutely funniest thing about all of this is that they’re closing on Christmas day. That’s the entire story.

Tosca the Japanese band, or the classical piece?

Sweet. I do not have anything by him. And I have one heck of a lot of music by Anthony. I met him way back in 1975 when he did a duet with Roscoe Mitchell at Michigan State.

It is a classic clip, but it is missing Michael Davis on bass. Still, all 5 is good. I saw them live several times- the best was when they and the Psychedelic Stooges opened for Blue Cheer at the Grande Ballroom.

For me, I am struck by knowing that when I was born, when I was 12, when I was 20 and when I am 72 is all "now!" It is hard to get my mind around it. I know there will come a time when I am no more, and that will be my "now." for the last time.

Ascension was the first Coltrane I ever heard. I was 14 (1967). I could not understand it. But then I bought Transition- which to this day I love beyond the telling. It took me 4 years to come to grips with Ascension, and then Meditations.
