this is why the democrats will continue doing nothing. this is why they’re centrists with maybe a few people actually leaning left. we do not have a balanced political system, so we can’t create equal binaries out of it.

you can say the same about trans rights. there is no meaningful opposite to the right’s transphobia - simply allowing people to exist is neutral, not an opposite position. as such, we can’t look at things so black and white. “burning it down” is not the same depending on who is doing the burning.

there is no meaningful opposition to “deport everyone.” the opposite of that would be an open border/everyone can immigrate, which i don’t think any american politician is suggesting. the opposition to that is actually a neutral stance.

we get a lot of these false equivalencies in political discourse. it’s worth remembering that maga doesn’t represent one half of an argument. most of their extreme policies are standalone political stances. as an example:

is there a way to take that approach for an entire degree? is it "academic" enough? are the bulk of students even interested? the problem with colonization is many of its effects are subliminal. i can complain about the commodification of jazz, but there's so many young people who love it.

i feel so fortunate that my mentor in undergrad was passionate about us actually interacting with the time and place and people who made the music, seeing them like people with flaws and passions and interiority. we have no use for the deity approach, professional and in a clean suit all the time
