At the @munsecconf.bsky.social, I stressed that when maritime chokepoints like the Red Sea are disrupted, the ripple effects on trade, food, and energy security are global.

Bold diplomacy, as we saw in the Black Sea Initiative, remains our best tool to keep sea lanes open and safe.

In today’s world, uncertainty is the highest tariff.

Predictability and cooperation are needed through reform, more regional agreements and stronger coalitions for a rules-based trade system.

Trade must reduce uncertainty, support development, and create a true win-win for all.

An intense week at #UNGA80.

No doubt these are difficult times, but in spite of headwinds, multilateralism remains essential, and I am convinced of our capacity to reform and successfully overcome challenges together.

#UNCTAD16 comes home to Geneva on 20–23 October – the city where UNCTAD was born in 1964.

We are grateful to Switzerland for stepping forward as host at this crucial moment.
