What exactly did the GOP surrender? Explain it like I'm 5 - what did they give up?

Hey doofus - no one is going to starve to death. People have been massively mobilizing to help. The mormon church has massive storehouses for times of famine. But without healthcare, people will die within days.

Why do you think they're going nuts with gerrymandering and voter suppression. They're not afraid of consequences. As long as they're winning power struggles with the Dems, that's all they need. Dems are not going to win by wailing "look what they're doing!" They have to demonstrate power.

The idea that it's terrible for Republicans is deranged and laughable. As long as they don't have to back down on anything ever, that's a win for them. Your idea of what is happening is not connected to reality.

People buy those houses to flip because they have more money than the young person looking for a starter home. You're presenting an EXTREMELY warped version of reality here. Young people who'd be happy with a modest starter home don't even bother trying because it's hopeless - just a pipedream.

We can feed each other, we cannot give each other healthcare. The public, had shown a willingness to endure snap cuts in exchange for an actual fight to force the right to back down. Instead, the dems backed down and got nothing after people made real sacrifices and voted to empower them.

It gives the GOP stronger footing because they are proving that they're so strong that they cannot be stopped and Dems are so weak that they won't even put up the fight. People picks winners, regardless of what they're winning at. No one picks the side of people who won't fight for their objectives.

Because Satan will show up carrying the moon and wearing a tutu before the republicans negotiate on subsidies and by then it will be too late to help people who already lost their insurance because the enrollment period has passed and they couldn't afford to sign up. People will DIE.

Those kinds of homes aren't being built, supposedly because no one wants them. Yet when i worked real estate, those kinds of homes were bought within hours of coming on the market because there was such high demand. Builders are being driven by profit, not consumer demand.

I won't try and chicken and egg the situation, but the costs of housing, education and healthcare have increased wildly while small luxuries are very accessible. Spending on small luxuries isn't what makes housing, etc inaccessible, though.
