I have been trying to redefine what evangelical means to me because I believe so strongly in what it once meant. But maybe it’s time to let it go.
Too many words for Bluesky, so hopefully images work.

How can we celebrate freedom while hardworking, good people who want to contribute to our country are being kidnapped, lynched and incarcerated without cause.

Christian morality without Christian ethics is coercion and cruelty.

As a Christian in America you have two options.

1. Advocate and vote for an immigration policy that makes legal immigration free, easy, and fast.

Or

2. Just admit that you do not want a Christian Nation.

I’m going to say something that shouldn’t be controversial but will be. If you are a Christian, you can support border control and immigration being legal vs illegal. You CANNOT celebrate deportations and get off on the cruelty, and be a real Christ follower. Period

Watching AOC rally yesterday. They really need to find a different word for “oligarchy.” They need to find a different way to talk about “income inequality.” They are on the right message, but those words don’t resonate.

They still sound like they are lecturing.

In 1990, thousands of Americans with disabilities decided to stop waiting for elected officials to act. Their efforts changed the minds — and the votes — of elected officials and resulted in the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

We can’t wait for our leaders to act. We have to lead.

Interesting. I have spent the last few weeks sharing Bible verses about the poor and immigrant on FB. I thought I would lose a lot of “friends”

I have lost a few. But gained many more younger generations and non religious friends who are intrigued by an alternative to political evangelicalism.

There is no such thing as “the sin of empathy.”

God is love.

And the world will know that we are Christians by our love.

I have an experiment going on Facebook. Each day I am posting one Bible passage addressing the treatment of immigrants, the poor and the vulnerable. Sometimes it will be a Bible passage on the dangers of trusting in wealth or power. I am not commenting, posting the words straight from the Bible.

There are many versions of Christianity that simply use the faith as a way of escaping this world, rather than something that compels us to transform it.

I believe in life after death. But I also believe God cares about life before death.

Nothing says “combat waste” like studying something that has been repeatedly and exhaustively studied already.
Exclusive: U.S. CDC plans study into vaccines and autism, sources say
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is planning a large study into potential connections between vaccines and autism, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, despite extensive scientific research that has disproven or failed to find evidence of such links.

Find a local homeless mission or shelter and volunteer or donate. They are going to need all the help they can get as housing programs shutter, unemployment rises, assistance for mental illness and addiction is slashed, and immigrants are forced into hiding.

All we really needed to fix immigration is to make America a place where no one wants to come.

I just realized I was holding on to the last vestiges of American exceptionalism for the last five weeks. Still believing that the goodness of our republic would overcome.

I had adjusted to losing my insurance, half my income and my house, and having my disabled daughter uninsured.

To my homeless residents being scared and hopeless due to lack of services.

But the Ukraine thing is oddly the one that has gutted me.
