“Monsieur Chief Justice,” Wriothesley says, not sure if he wants to laugh or walk straight into the sea. “Are you unfamiliar with floriography?” Returning to his dockets, Neuvillette says, “I understand it is a passing trend among the young people of Fontaine, but I have never given it much of my own regard.” Wriothesley chokes. Half of Fontainian society communicates via the unspoken language of flowers, using bouquets to augment or even subvert their messages. “I wouldn’t call it a passing trend,” Wriothesley manages, strangled. “Forgive me if I’m being too bold, but you might want to give it more of your regard.” Frowning once more, Neuvillette finally sets aside his dockets and gives Wriothesley his full attention. “And why is that?”
