Thinking of my British SIL today. My brother moved to the UK to have a family when she refused to go through the needless expense and bureaucracy of U.S. healthcare. Miss him dearly but glad my SIL stood up for herself—my nephew and niece are thriving and happy. Here’s to moms all over the world! 💐

Art by @ootmel on IG at a local pub.

Public art.

More public art. The best, really.

“Stop looking at the art on your damn phone and feed me.”

(Pet sitting this salty bastard for a friend.)

Is it art or is someone clumsy?

Definitely art. 🙌🏻

So much art. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yesterday we saw things #RenwickGallery
We didn’t eat stuff, we patted those, and we watched this (until our internet went out): www.kennedy-center.org/whats-on/mar...

Twain punched up, he supported the working class, and he hated bullies.

Be like Twain. And Conan. And also get a hug.

Things that made me smile today: Flahrs, some good shit, stickers we like, and can we just agree that everyone poops and get on with our lives?

Things that made me smile last week: Pretty flowers, a cookbook that made us both strongly consider breaking our cookbook moratorium, public art, a slice of homemade rhubarb upside down cake work friend gave me. Yum.

Things I saw last night on my way back from an in-person meeting that I forgot was changed to online.

Purple asparagus and taro buns at the weekly farmer’s market, public art, The Nature Conservancy (pretty rad mission and magazine).

#YearOfTheSnake Can’t partake in the middle of the day but might come back later this can art is too pretty.

#Sinners was so good. The hype is well-earned—Miles Caton is amazing. Stay past the credits (Trust me.)

Bounding up the stairs has become his default reaction to a good movie. The energy you get from sitting in a dark theater, away from the chaos for 2hrs+, watching a good story—it’s incredible. 🤩

Some flowers, some public art, some more public art, a panel from Magical Girl Dandelion which is being released as a tankobon this week that also is a mood.

Things that made me smile this week: Tiny ‘maters, stickers, dogwood flowers, yakgwa cookie lattes.

Things I bought and saw and did on my way to the theater last night to see Hugh Bonneville in Uncle Vanya.

(First Chekov play. It was really something.)

Best place to see the blossoms is right down the road. Fewer people and folks are actually doing hanami ‘right’ which is nice.

Finally Friday!

Some art in the park on a local campus.
Some art on a wall in the back room of a local taco place.
Some raindrops on forsythia blooms.

Ready for a restful weekend. 😮‍💨

Things that made me happy this week:

A perfect sock/shoe combo.
An electric orange sunset.
A homemade cake for a friend’s birthday.
Some mindful swag.

(There’s a 2K character limit in the ALT text. I might write a novel.)

Taking a break from spending (and social media that doesn’t make anyone happy). Bluesky all day!

Coworker and I have been taking walks at lunch every day. We stopped at a grocery store and I picked up this kumquat chocolate bar because the wrapper is gorgeous but also kumquat is not a flavor I see often. 🍊🍫

From last night, friend and I took the long way back to the station, stopping off to try something new at the local package store.

Quick shot of the view down K Street with the setting sun blending the sky and glass. Zooming in a bit in case you missed it. #DC

Breaking into the cellar (aka the utility closet) to sip on some gently aged stouts from 2016 onwards. The special occasion is Wet As Hell January.

(Seriously, ‘Dry January’ is just so stupid. If you wanna make a positive change, don’t have to wait for January just cut back on alcohol. Period.)

Happy New Year!

Blueberry lemon with custard and meringue. Of all the treats we brought this one we were the happiest to see didn’t get claimed because it just looks delicious. ☺️

We made a tart for Xhristmas dinner and then everyone came down with something and dinner got cancelled. Honestly gutted—family and food are the best things about holidays and today was a wash on both. Tart’s in the freezer and we’re crashing out. Hope you had a lovely day if you celebrate. 🎄

Last night I was standing in the middle of a parking garage entrance to get these and cars pulled up seconds later but no one honked because it’s 2024 and people understand the importance of doing things for ‘the ‘Gram’ now.

Drinks with friends. Just the right amount of stout or rum cocktails, smoked mochas, and bonding.

We also played Sea Salt and Paper which has a beautiful deck—unfortunately I didn’t get a single shot but trust me. I’m enamored.
