Africa is skipping the polluting and planet-wrecking fossil fuel era entirely.

Solar grids and clean tech at massive scale mean that once-dark village are glowing with renewable light.

The future isn’t coming from the West — it’s rising in the South.

Is your government still supplying arms and logistical & intelligence support to Israel? Do you agree that Israel has committed a genocide in Gaza? Does that make Starmer, Lammy and Cooper in danger of prosecution for crimes against humanity?

Want the sustainable energy future that Africa is already moving swiftly towards?

Time to rise up and tell our governments to stop clinging to yesterday's disastrous energy source - and look south, where clean power, tech & hope are already lighting the way.

Africa's inspiring leapfrog over the fossil fuel nightmare highlights an ugly truth for Europeans and Americans.

The only thing slowing our shift to renewables is the capture of our political 'leaders' by Big Oil, billionaires and their media propagandists.

More than 20 African countries have dramatically increased imports of solar technology to meet booming demand.

3.7 GW of new solar capacity came online in Africa in 2023 alone.

Africans see that the future is powered by sunlight, wind and water - not planet-wrecking fossil fuels.

Ethiopia aims for 100% electrification by 2025, with huge solar, hydro & wind expansion.

And the country is building dozens of mini-hybrid grids to connect remote areas. The aim: to ensure no-one is left in the dark.

Mali’s rural village of Karan used to be dark at night. Today, the WeLight’s solar mini-grid + storage delivers affordable light & energy for all.

Bakeries, shops & school are powered by abundant sunlight not dirty diesel.

It's a grassroots energy revolution being repeated across the continent.

In Togo, the Blitta Solar Power Station (50 MW, expanding towards 70 MW) is now lighting up hundreds of thousands of homes + small businesses.

Battery storage ensures that power continues to flow even after the sun sets.

In Senegal, the Diass Solar Power Station (23 MW) now feeds clean electricity into the national grid.

Less polluting, more reliable power. Created by determined government policy & investment in an African country showing Europe and the US what the future of energy looks like.

Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer. But it's built huge solar mini-grids for rural areas.

Why? Fossil fuels are yesterday's problem producing
unreliable electricity from filthy diesel generators.

The country understands solar + batteries + local power = affordable energy justice.

Experts feared it would take 193 years to reduce London's deadly levels of NO₂ air pollution to legal levels.

This week Mayor Sadiq Khan announced his team had defied the howls of pro-fossil fuel and motoring lobbyists to achieve the life-saving target in just 9 YEARS.

Here's how they did it 🧵

UK Labour's ongoing flirtation with oil & gas expansion is laughable in the face of what London did.

If we can slash NO₂ faster than anyone expected, we can do so much more.

Push for clean air, clean transport, clean energy — demand the same courage from all of our leaders.

London's fight back against the pollution killing our young and old proves political will is the key to life-saving change.

Claims it would take centuries were excuses to do nothing.

Opposition evaporates as the public health dividends of clean air for all and savings for NHS become obvious.
redhotworld.bsky.social
But their noisy legal and media campaign to keep London's air dirty and dangerous failed.

And between 2016 - 2023 roadside NO₂ in the capital nearly halved.

There were huge drops in the outer boroughs where right wing politicians most ferociously fought the clean air initiatives.

There were shrieks of protest from a toxic brew of billionaire-controlled national press, right wing politicians, and paid lobbyists for the fossil fuel, motoring and road haulage industries.

It was an unfair war on motorists, poorer residents and local businesses, they yelled.
redhotworld.bsky.social
In 2019, Khan and his team decided enough was enough.

An Ultra Low Emission Zone was launched to ban the most polluting trucks, vans and cars from Central London.

In 2023, they expanded ULEZ across the whole city.

What is NO₂? A toxic gas from diesel cars, trucks, and old boilers.

It damages lungs, worsens asthma, increases heart disease & even dementia risk.

In London, it causes up to 4,000 premature deaths a year, chiefly amongst children and the elderly.

GOOD NEWS: Renewable energy supplied OVER HALF of the EU's electricity for the first time.

Denmark had a whopping 94% of their electricity coming from renewables in Q2.

This is PROOF: renewables are the future!

RIP Jane Goodall.

The future doesn’t belong to those who cling to the outdated and planet-wrecking energy sources and systems.

It belongs to those who build new systems.

Uruguay did it — we can too.
