I can only speak for myself, but I don’t think treating the symptoms & not the cause is uncommon at all. I was trying to treat 3 separate symptoms until ONE doctor tested for BPD2 & figured out we were basically trying to put band aids on a brain tumor. You are not alone.

Strength & love to you. I was also misdiagnosed for years & was given antidepressants, which don’t work on BPD (I’m BPD2) or AuDHD (recently diagnosed). Knowing doesn’t undo years of misdiagnosis, but it does help me navigate some kind of a way forward, & I hope you will find your navigation too.
