spectober day seven - sanae adventure 2 battle
#東方Project
Sanae Kochiya from Touhou Project holding a copy of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the Nintendo Gamecube. Her speech bubbles read as follows:

"Wanna play Sonic Adventure 2 Battle? It's my favorite newer Sonic game!

...what do you mean it's one of the older ones?"

TL;DR Silksong is still good at 13 hours of play time, even if two of those hours was spent just dying to the Moorwing or dying on the boss runback to the Moorwing.

Finally: I'm miffed that it took until hour 7 of the game to acquire Nuu's Beastiary. I could have been getting enemy lore since stream 1! But it's fine! Hornet's comments about any fluffy, soft, and cute bugs more than makes up for it.

I've also continued to do quests for Bonebottom. So far, I've gotten them clothing, materials for construction, and heating. Feels good to be helping, but I wish there was more I could do. The place is just so sad with everyone slumped against walls in fetal positions

The existence of Greyroot in Shellwood has implications for HK1's lore, considering the only *other* Root character I know, but I haven't completed enough of their questline to say anything for certain

Story-wise, I didn't get much further from last stream. I found the strung-up bugs of Bellhart, but no real answers beyond that. The massive spools of silk in the Greymoor and Hornet's speculative dialogue give me more puzzle pieces, but I've yet to see the big picture

Then there's Sister Splinter, which wasn't really foreshadowed before the boss room and didn't have aura beyond being large and dealing two mask of damage.

I suppose there was just less for me to be disappointed by?

Perhaps it's because Fourth Chorus was a trailer boss and was also foreshadowed as a big deal while exploring the area he was in? It made me build up an idea of what Fourth Chorus would be like to fight and I ended up disappointing myself with my own imagination

Shellwood's boss fight is Sister Splinter. It's another head-with-two-hands boss that I think executes its premise and mechanics equally well to Fourth Chorus, but I was less disappointed by it for some reason.

I *do* like that we can recruit NPCs to fight with us, tho! Not quite sure how much Garmond and Zaza contributed beyond extra DPS since they don't seem to aggro the boss, but their assistance was a fun addition to an otherwise disappointing boss fight

Four simple attacks, strung together quickly, and made more difficult by the boss dealing 2 masks of touch damage. However, touch damage is the only thing keeping them from being a joke. All but one attack can be dodged by just dashing under the boss during its wind-up

The boss of Greymoor is the Moorwing. A massive flying enemy with three attacks—frenzy-slashes forward, charge forward, throw a buzzsaw forward along the ground, and throw two buzz saws upward that curve down in opposite directions and cross each other under the boss

Anti-shoutout to the Greymoor Craws. The swoop attacks of the small ones are difficult to predict and I haven't been able to fight the tall ones enough to recognize their animation tells. The only saving grace is that I can parry the spread projectiles of the stout ones
(🧵13/24)

Special shoutout to Skarrs Scout and Stalker. They have wonderfully tricky movesets that would have made them into fun late-game bosses in HK1. The fact that they're just regular enemies in Silksong, whom I can fight as many times as I'd like, is a blessing.
(🧵12/24)

Enemies in Silksong continue to be more interesting than HK1 and I get the sense that I'll have to stop mentioning it at some point because, wow, so many of them are actually a threat and fun to fight.

I don't think the benefits that these two new crests give are good enough to counterbalance the more awkward combat you'll be forced into by using them. Which is a shame, because I think they're neat and want to like them. I wish they were better
(🧵10/24)

Reaper Crest has slower attacks from weird angles, a downward rolling slash instead of a pogo-dive, and special bind skill where you get extra silk from hitting enemies.

The Wanderer Crest has a fast swing speed and the 4-direction swing from HK1, but low range.
(🧵9/24)
redlerred7.bsky.social
I also found both the Reaper and Wanderer Crests which change Hornet's moveset in meaningful ways. Unfortunately, I don't think either of them are better than the Hunter Crest you start with.
(🧵8/24)

The acceleration adds a certain time pressure to wall jumps that HK1's wall cling has much less of (especially considering in HK1 you can feather the input of the crystal dash to theoretically cling to a wall indefinitely)
(🧵7/24)
redlerred7.bsky.social
I'm a big fan of the changes to the wall cling upgrade. Touching the wall in the air seems to instantly stop your fall, and you slowly accelerate down with reduced gravity, eventually reaching your standard fall speed after clinging for long enough.
(🧵6/24)

Tho, I do wonder if I'd be less *non-committal-hand-waggle* about the glide if it didn't completely kill your sprint momentum. Maybe if it gradually decelerated you to its standard speed instead of instantly? Would theoretically be overpowered
(🧵5/24)
redlerred7.bsky.social
The parachute glide that I got at the end of the last stream still kinda just exists? I've found the occassional use for it in fights that require me to jump over a low sweeping attacks, but I've yet to actually be forced to use it anywhere other than on updafts
(🧵4/24)
redlerred7.bsky.social
A delightful nuance I've found is the difference between a sprint-jump and a jump-dash, and the fact that I was actually forced to make use of that difference throughout my exploration of Wormway
