I'd agree, the Great Recession, along with some regulations and tech all sort of combined to make it harder to make good cars. Along with cars have peaked so what else do we do, and how do we drive down manufacturing costs. Also most people just don't want a car, they want to drive a space phone.

Working in automotive...me, mechanic shops, body shops, we'll all tell you, buy the cleanest 'older' car you can. Parts availability issues, over complexity, insurance are such a mess on brand new cars. A clean 25 year old Acura will give you less problems in five years then a brand new one.
