Simple Midwest Public Defense Lawyer in the trenches.
Sortition looking like a better method than democracy sadly. The average random person would do a better job for sure.

Didn’t know you had a new book coming out but am excited to pick it up! Loved the Vicious Circuit trilogy and Carrier Wave so this a definite pre-order for me.

Absolutely love Buehlman’s duology. He also dabbles in horror as well and “Between Two Fires” was an absolute masterpiece of Medieval Supernatural Horror.

Brad Lander is a rare breed of Democrat, someone who actually gives a shit. I really hope he does well and takes the seat.

I mean “but for” causation here kind of makes it easy for me to parse why it has to be. But for it being Christmas, the McAllisters wouldn’t be going to Paris to see family and there wouldn’t be a normally empty house for the Wet Bandits to burglarize. Therefore, it’s a Christmas Movie. QED.

I am incandescent with anger right now. I’m a generally anti-government left leaning person but there is almost sacred about those ceremonies. I have never felt proud to be an American except when witnessing my brother-in-law’s sweating in. It’s absolutely a beautiful experience.

Correct. The only people not “subject” to US jurisdiction when inside the US are foreign diplomats, consular staff, etc.

And that’s how every single person has interpreted it since the 14th was passed.

The anti-incumbent wave was nigh universal even. Lots of both right and left wing parties tossed out worldwide in 2024. The post-COVID inflation hurt everybody. Harris did better than most by comparison if you compare by what % those incumbents lost.

The force applied is a factor of how quickly you displace the falling energy. This is why high dive form is like a toothpick to enter the water, more energy gets used forcing the water to displace out of the way than in “stopping” you.

Stopping all at once from 10m is basically a 40mph car crash.

Witnesses said he fell the equivalent of an Olympic high dive, 10m or so, into the river. If you’re untrained and not expecting it, that’s like falling out a 3 story building onto something not much softer than concrete.

It’s true he was testing an off-road more ATV style version in 2010 and fell off an enbankment into a river when he tried to reverse to let someone and their dog pass him on the trail.

Don’t need a front door when all your rooms have exterior doors. Including one where you have to step over a bathtub…

Managed to get my chores done early so now I’m snuggling with a blanket in my hammock on my covered balcony watching the rain. It’s a real nice time.

Shows you how FAST the brain can process when pushed to the edge. And how it slows down your perception of time makes it abundantly clear how subjective a reality we inhabit when it’s mediated by the processing speed of our brains. Wild stuff.

Back in 2010 I got T-boned in my Chevy truck and the little Taurus sedan wedged it’s hood perfectly underneath as to act like a spatula, flipping me entirely upside down. It was surreal that it was both instant and forever, that flipping. The only thought I had was “wow, what a rollercoaster.”

I remember being a college freshman and watching this in theatres with my boys on Christmas Day after we were all “family’d out”. It was perfection. It’s one of those flashbulb memories for me.
