This feels like a move you make when you already think you wouldn’t re-sign him when his option expires after this year, just get some value and re-invest. I like Klauss and would miss his play and locker room presence, but I see it if that’s the angle… but then you have to replace him adequately

Do we have any clarity yet on how contracts work with the mini season? Like burki is signed through 27 with an option for 28; is the mini season 27 and the 27-28 season the 28 “option” year?

That’s where I’m at, like if burki and the club don’t end up eye to eye on his value I don’t know what he thinks the market will offer more than us, unless the club is truly low-balling him. Which… (looks sideways at Tim Parker) I’ll admit is an uncomfortable possibility

I say this without having looked at the TAM rules close enough to see if that would help the roster flexibility enough, so take my opinion for the uneducated one it is

My ideal outcome (I want burki to stay personally) would be offering another 3 year deal for like 1.1 million a year; keeps him highest paid keeper in league, keeps him around for leadership in the locker room and he can help train his replacement

Looking through purely the MLS goalkeeping contracts, if he stays in the league no one I think will pay the 1.7; the only club with a GK situation where they have a potential need and might come close to that amount is LAFC.
