In reality? We got a barrage of harmful rhetoric about people seeking safety, cruel policies about tearing families apart and discriminatory plans to make people "earn" safety.

#ConferenceSeason2025
Text says "Things we wanted to hear about this conference season:" Then there is a tick list of boxes with question marks in. The ticklist is: Affordanble mones, investment in all communities, tackling wealth inequality, and a truly fair, dignified new asylum system.

Today feels like a good day to remember that most of us believe in welcome 💜
Here are some of the thousands of messages we've received from supporters recently. We'll be delivering them to Number 10, because it seems the government needs this reminder too.

The design includes abstract shapes in black and pastel colors on a green background. People like you know that families fleeing war and persecution aren’t to blame for the cost-of-living crisis or overstretched services.

Will you tell the government you welcome refugees? Send your message using our tool:

Another heartbreaking yet totally avoidable tragedy.

Our thoughts are with their loved ones and refugee communities everywhere.

Enough. Human beings will continue to die at the border until our government dismantles its hostile environment and creates safe routes.

So many powerful and common sense arguments were made in support or lifting the ban. At the next stage of the bill, we need Lords to vote for working rights.

Together, we’re keeping this issue firmly on the agenda. ✊

Dangerous sites in Wethersfield and Napier prove the point: locking traumatised people behind barbed wire just causes deep human suffering, drains public money, and boosts the profits of private contractors.

We’ve got so many real solutions for the new Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, to build an asylum system that works for refugees and communities.

Instead of repeating the last Government’s mistakes, we’d love her to sit down with us and hear them.

Family unity is central to recovery, integration, and wellbeing. We stand with @rasvoice.bsky.social in urging the Home Secretary to recognise the human cost of this policy and to reinstate safe, legal, and timely pathways for families to be reunited.

Vital conversations about violence against women and girls (VAWG) are being hijacked by a racist, anti-migrant agenda.

We've joined 200 organisations to urge the Government to address this dangerous weaponisation.

We're proud to join over 200 organisations to call on Party Leaders to end the divisive politics, racist rhetoric and demonising language of the past.

Only then will they bring unity instead of division and cohesion rather than hate.

Our leaders could treat people with dignity, house them safely and let them rebuild.

But they seem to be in a race to the bottom, competing over who can treat people seeking safety the most cruelly.

This emboldens the far-right and leads to racist attacks.

We’re joining 200+ orgs to say enough.

These racist actions do not have broad public support.
Yet the government and the media are fuelling them with hateful and divisive rhetoric.

It's time to take responsibility and change the tune.

We heard the Home Secretary call France a “safe country.”

But this week we’ve seen people, including babies and toddlers sleeping rough, people walking kilometres for water, tents slashed, belongings destroyed, and police harassment.

This is not safety.

Some here have already been detained and tortured in Libya on their journey for safety.

Many have crossed multiple borders fleeing war and persecution.

Now, they are being threatened with detention – again. All for simply for trying to reach safety.
refugeeaction.bsky.social
Today, a charity operating the day centre translated the news about the detentions in the UK related to the so-called “one in, one out” deal. The fear was immediate.

People asked questions. We had no answers. The government hasn’t offered any clarity on how this policy will affect people.
