Maybe an odd answer: Skagway, AK. Absolutely beautiful little town and a lovely compact grid nestled in a valley. The only issue is, it only exists for the purpose of cruise ship tourism, and basically the entire town works in tourism or supporting the town

Example: this was my bike/walk to work this summer in the KC suburbs. Nice that there's a path very separated from cars, but the lack of shade and anything to look at did NOT make it a fun trip
