The film's sound design and the way the audio serves to draw attention to the artwork rather than the action is such a mood.
Mamoru Oshii's use of subtle body language with the characters really helps the narrative and communicates so much with a few gestures.

There were also some other little things this one noticed. When they are trying to crack into the Puppet Master shell, it shifts its eyes to look directly at the Major, and the next shot is of the Major from Puppet Master's perspective.
