The Blogosphere I am an atheist in large part because of a blog called Common Sense Atheism.The author, Luke Muehlhauser, was criticising both Richard Dawkins and some Christian apologetics I was familiar with. Luke's blog was part of a cluster of blogs out of which grew the rationalists, one of, for better or for worse, the most influential intellectual movements of the 21st century.I also read blogs like boingboing.net, was a big fan of Cory Doctorow. I figured out I am trans in part because of Thing of Things,Specifically their piece on the cluster structure of genderspace. a blog by Ozy Frantz, a transmasc person in the broader rationalist and Effective Altruist blogosphere.One thing these all have in common is length. Part of the reason I only really got onto Twitter in 2020 or so was because the concept of microblogging, of having to fit your thoughts into such a small package, baffled me for ages.Amusingly I now think that being on Twitter and now Bluesky made me a better writer. Restrictions breed creativity, after all. On Platform Decay Through all of this I was never really satisfied with the options that were out there for long-form writing. Wordpress required too much setup. Tumblr's system for comments remains insane. Hosting my own seemed like too much money to burn on something nobody might read. But at the same time, Substack's success proves that there is very much a desire for long-form writing, enough that people will pay for it, and that investors will back it. There are thoughts and forms of writing that you simply cannot fit into a post or even a thread of posts. Plus, I'm loathe to enable a centralised platform like Substack where the owners are unfortunately friendly to fascists.I am very much a fan of freedom of expression. Build your own ATProto Adventure! An atproto SvelteKit template.

I needed a confidential oauth client, so I thought to abstract the start of the project to a template for anyone to use!

I am hoping this will be one of the easiest ways for devs to start an atproto project w/ oauth

a simple un styled website that says SvelteKit ATProtocol OAuth template A build your own ATProto adventure It's up to you on what this project should be and what it looks like. Fork the project on tangled.org to make it your own. This web hosted version is mostly just a technical preview showing a demo of what the application looks like and how it works, not a lot here, or even styling that's up to you, not me. But if you Login you can poke people or see who poked you, so there's that at least. A bare minimal SvelteKit demo that... Can have local dev oauth with setting the .env variable DEV=true Can switch to production oauth when you set the OAUTH_DOMAIN variable to a domain like mycoolwebsite.xyz and making sure the website is server to the internet A persistent session store using drizzle with sqlite A docker compose and documentation on how to deploy to railway An example page using the atproto Agent where you can make a post or poke someone Uses microcosm for demoing some AppView-less features you can do, like seeing who has poked you without a backend. Source code can be found on tangled.org

Bluesky, please break my WIP 100% from-scratch Rust wasm markdown editor and then tell me how you broke it. It has basic IME support now, and CRDT groundwork via Loro for later collab features.

Known bugs include RTL text completely messing up the cursor. Unknown bugs...
## Field-testing Jacquard's features Another driver behind this was a desire to field-test a number of the unique features of the atproto library I built for Weaver, [Jacquard](https://tangled.org/@nonbinary.computer/jacquard). I've written more about one aspect of its design philosophy and architecture [here](https://alpha.weaver.sh/did:plc:yfvwmnlztr4dwkb7hwz55r2g/Jacquard/Jacquard%20Magic) but since that post I've added a couple pretty powerful features and I needed to give them a shakedown run. One was runtime lexicon resolution and schema validation.
